The Evergreen Lake Estates is a residential development located in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the main entrance to the subdivision complex was to be aesthetically pleasing. The Walltek Design Build, Inc. team was awarded the project to build a wall system that would surround the entrance as well as the retention pond.
Walltek constructed a 3-tiered wall system that formed the retention pond and entrance. The 21,500 square foot Gravity Stone wall system was engineered for a water application to withstand the 100 year flood mandate. However, dealing with the winter elements is a huge challenge when constructing any wall system. Walltek needed to install frost blankets on the reinforced backfill overnight so it would not freeze. If frost occured it could create compaction issues that would slow the installation. In some instances, they needed to heat the reinforced backfill on site in order to keep on schedule.
